The Fund-raising committee’s primary goal is to raise money to help fund the work of the Stephen Lewis Foundation, supporting African Grandmothers who are raising the millions of children orphaned by AIDS. We accomplish this by:
- Conducting two high-profile events, one in the Spring and one in the Fall.
- In the Spring, the Fabulous Fabric Frenzy is held. During the year we collect, sort and price donated fabric, wool and notions. This successful fundraiser relies on donations from the community – so SLASH YOUR STASH!! We sell these items at bargain prices. For further information or to donate please call Elna, 780-435-5488 or Phyllis, 780-469-6327.
- In the Fall, the “Power of Words” Scrabble Benefit. Words have magnificent power to influence the way people think and behave. Since Scrabble is all about words, we are using the game to demonstrate our desire to have a positive impact on the lives of African grandmothers and their grandchildren through this fund-raising event.
Prior to the actual event people are asked to collect supportive pledges before they play. We are now able to provide a way to pledge on-line. Participants can put together a team of 2 or a table of 4; play alone or with family or friends; or set up a challenge game! There is a prize for the highest score and also the highest table score. Rovers are nearby to help with spelling if needed. It is a fun afternoon for all ages. Following the game, shop at our wonderful craft tables and enjoy delicious refreshments.
