On Friday March 9,  GANG members were deep in thought over a Scrabble board  with high school students from WP Wagner High School.  Many of the students had never played SCRABBLE before and welcomed the gentle guidance of the grandmother at their table. As one GANG member shared at the end of the afternoon ” My faith in the future is restored …  they were a most respectful, engaging group of young people!”  An intergenerational  focused event with many positive spin offs…. and oh the stories!!

And so many thank you ….To
  • 29 GANG members who played Scrabble
  • 120 & students who participated in Power of Words
  • 15 GANG members who collected pledges on line
  • 23 GANG members who collected pledges in person
  • 282 friends of the GANG who  pledged  donations
  • Vicki Strang and Susan Bell who shared the GANG story with the students prior to our Scrabble event
  • Karey Heard from Bessie Carlson School who donated 2 award for “GOOD Sportsmanship”
  • And a VERY SPECIAL  GANG thanks to Trudy Oatway, Social Studies Head @ WP Wagner school who believed in the GANG and worked so closely with our team
  • Scrabble committee members who also believed in the Power of Words and  transformed an idea  to make this day a reality.

And yes  …. we  did well  with pledges too … $20, 097.00 … with a few donations still to come.

in gratitude,
