Advocacy and Awareness

We organize talks, film screenings, school visits, and community events to raise awareness about the realities facing African grandmothers. We actively follow and share updates from the Stephen Lewis Foundation and Dr. Edwards. Add details about upcoming awareness events here.

The Grandmothers of Alberta for a New Generation runs many events in Edmonton. First, we host the Fabric Frenzy every Thursday at Strathearn United Church. Volunteers collect fabric, yarn, and craft supplies there. In addition, we hold the annual Grandmother Goodies Bake Sale each spring. Furthermore, the Shakers and Makers Market brings the Edmonton community together every fall. These events raise thousands of dollars for African grandmothers. As a result, GANG has raised over one million dollars since 2006. We also run awareness talks, school visits, and film screenings across Edmonton. Moreover, we share updates from the Stephen Lewis Foundation and the Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign. See our calendar of events to find out what is coming up next. You can also read the latest news from the GANG. To learn more, visit the Stephen Lewis Foundation and the Grandmothers Campaign websites. Edmonton grandmothers have stood in solidarity with African grandmothers for nearly twenty years. Together, we continue to fundraise, advocate, and raise awareness across our community.
